This Tuesday, Dr. Hsaio-Ting Lin, the director of East Asia Library of Hoover Institution Library and Archives delivered a speech in our campus on the topic of “Cold War of East Asia, U.S. Government and the Development of Taiwan Politics”.
Dr. Lin referenced historical records and declassified documents from the era of Cold War. By analyzing the U.S. domestic, foreign policies and international politics during the period, Dr. Lin made compelling arguments on how they were interconnected with the strategic position of the straits and the UN membership of Taiwan.
Through the speech, Dr. Lin recalled the crucial turning point for Taiwan during Cold War and we were reminded of the “consistent” and “inconsistent” of Taiwan in the international realm. It is thought-provoking, for us to look back at history and rethink about our perception on international politics.
We would like to pay our gratitude to Dr. Chih-Hong Tsai, dean of College of International Affairs Dr. Cheng-Hao Pao, director of Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies Dr. Da-Jung Li and assistant professor of Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies Dr. Ray Ou-Yang and all guests for attending this insightful speech.
