1. Please comply with the Ph.D. Program Regulations of the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Tamkang University<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Please refer to the Course Area Classification and Planning Table<\/strong> for the qualifying examination subject areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Doctoral students are eligible to apply for the Qualifying Examination after completing 23 required credits<\/strong>. (Students admitted in Academic Year 2025 and thereafter are required to complete 18 required credits<\/strong>.)<\/em> The Qualifying Examination consists of one major field<\/strong> and one minor field<\/strong>. Additional regulations are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A. Application Period and Examination Schedule<\/strong>
Applications are accepted annually in October<\/strong> and March<\/strong>, and the examinations are held on designated dates in December<\/strong> and May<\/strong>. Applicants must submit the following documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

o   One official Tamkang University transcript covering all completed coursework; and <\/p>\n\n\n\n

o   One completed Qualifying Examination Application Form<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

B. Passing Requirements<\/strong>
A minimum score of 70<\/strong> is required to pass each examination. Students who fail may apply to retake the failed examination after one year<\/strong>. The selected examination field may not be changed<\/strong>, and only one retake is permitted<\/strong> for each failed field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C. Examination Format<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

o    After selecting the major and minor examination fields, the faculty members who have taught courses in the respective fields will prepare the examination questions. Each faculty member will contribute two questions<\/strong>, forming a question pool from which candidates will answer the required questions. Faculty members may provide a recommended reading list before the examination to assist students in their preparation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

o    The major and minor examinations are administered separately. Each examination lasts three hours<\/strong>, during which candidates must answer four questions<\/strong>. All answers must be handwritten. The examination is closed-book<\/strong>; the use of books, online resources, reference materials, personal computers, mobile phones, or any other electronic devices is strictly prohibited.
